Blaze Balls and Cathedral Wicks Heads

Blaze Balls are a pre-assembled wick used for making fire cables, fire chains, fire darts or fire meteors. A monkey fist knot is tied around a wooden ball and through a metal eyebolt that attaches to your fire equipment, via a swivel. The eye of the bolt is buried in the wicking making a low profile exit of the swivel, and makes for a safer attachment since wicking passes through the eye of the bolt. Advantages of Blaze Balls over cathedral and other flat wick styles for poi include: long burn times, improved longevity, reduction of exposed metal hardware, a round shape flame.

Different sizes are available depending on your personal preferences in regards to weight, burn time, and flame size. Blaze Balls made with 5/8", 1/2" or 3/8" kevlar fire rope depending on the size of ball. We recommend using the smaller BB-250 and BB-300 sizes for poi spinning.

The BB-300 has a slightly bigger flame than cathedral (3' X 2") wick assembly which is commonly used with fire poi. The 3 1/2 inch is recommended for dancers who want larger flames, and a longer burn time.

The largest (4 inch) Blaze Ball is too heavy for poi swinging, and are better suited for fire darts or fire meteors.

Large cathedral wick heads are folded squares using 36 inches of wick. The washers and self-locking nut are made of stainless steel. This is the most economical and commonly used wick option. The flame will last about 3-5 minutes. Double cathedral wick is the same as the large cathedral wick but uses 72 inches of wick. It produces a much large flame and burns for a about 4-7 minutes.

Nicely made, gives off a beautiful amount of fire. First time buying monkey fist and I don’t think I’ll ever go back to cathedrals. These are on the bigger side but are still light enough to spin as poi, but also heavy enough for a great rope dart head. Highly recommend these wicks.
